The Royal Ballet performs in Frederick Ashton's The Dream, Symphonic Variations, Marguerite and Armand (Blu-Ray)
Marking 70 years of performing at the Royal Opera House in London, the Royal Ballet bring to a close their series of anniversary concerts with this performance of three ballets choreographed by founder Frederick Ashton.
Felix Mendelssohn's 'The Dream' is first in the programme, with Sarah Lamb in the role of Titania and Steven McRae as Oberon. The ballet is Ashton's interpretation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and has become one of the company's most famous works.
Dancers Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov perform in César Franck's 'Symphonic Variations', notably created as a celebration of movement.
Finally, Zenaida Yanowsky and Roberto Bolle dance in the title roles in Liszt's 'Marguerite and Armand', Ashton's own ballet which was written specifically for ballerinas Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in 1963 and set to Liszt's 'Piano Sonata in B Minor'.
